Hair help

Ok, so I'm not a fan of selfies (of myself)...and yet, I'm about to post one...and with NO makeup. What in the world is wrong with me?!

Well, I need some recommendations from you. I have fine hair, but a lot of it. This usually means that I keep my hair short in an effort to cut down on my getting ready time. However, I'm tired of having short hair so I've been growing it out for several months. I've made good progress but need some help. Like I said, while I don't have thick hair, I have a lot of hair and it takes forever to dry it. Since it's been longer, I've been finding myself letting it air dry and putting it in a ponytail or clippy. But, I don't always want do that. I'd like to dry it and give it a little style, too. Up until this weekend, I'd been using a round brush to dry and style my hair at the same time. While it works and gives me the body I'd like, it takes forever and I'm a sweaty mess by the end of it. So much for my shower, huh! While in Chicago, I used Mia's straightener and really liked it. The only thing I missed was the body I got from round brushing it.

So, here's what I'm asking. Do you have any suggestions on a good root lifter? And a reasonably priced straightener? And maybe a style that would work for my face shape and hair type?

Please excuse the weird lighting. This is me with hair partially dried with the hair dryer and finishing up by air drying. And go with your suggestions :)

  1. You always look beautiful! I don't have your hair type so I don't have specific things to tell you to try, but I am going to be on the hunt for you :)

  2. I just started using aquage uplifting foam and I really like it (not only gives some volume, but it hold backcombing for awhile and will hold volume for awhile with just using your fingers)...i have super fine hair as well, which is why I had short hair for so long! :) Loving having it longer again, though...I use a cheap straightener every once in awhile but not too often...it's just a conair. It does the job but probably isn't the best out there! :)

  3. I have a Sedu flat iron that I got from folica.com. I love it! I waited until they had a special going on and got it for under $100. Remember that with a flat iron, you get what you pay for. So you can go to target and get a $20 one but it will probably quit on you after about 6 months if you are using it every day. So if you go through three or four of those in a couple of years, you might have wished you spent a little more on a good one from a place that will honor a warranty in case anything goes wrong with it. The key to keeping volume when you use a straightener is to use a lower heat setting and kind of curl the iron from your roots to give it some lift (does that make sense). For root lifters, I LOVE Living Proof root lifting spray (http://www.sephora.com/full-root-lifting-spray-P270708?icid2=Living_Proof_Must_Haves%20_P270708_link). It doesn't leave a weird sticky texture or anything. If you don't care about having a tacky type feeling in your hair, then aquage uplifting foam is really good. Check out thesmallthingsblog.com and she has some good tips for using a flat iron but still getting volume in your hair. I think you will have fun with longer hair! Enjoy playing with it and trying new styles!

  5. Hey Kristal I have thick hair and am currently growing it out to donate so I feel ya on the time part. Someone told me about dry shampoo. So I can actually use that and only wash, dry and straighten my hair every other day or every 3 days. It was kind of odd for me in the beginning bc I usually wash my hair every day. But it gives it a little volume too each time you put it in. The one I use is powder, but the company went to spray so you have to get it on like amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Naturelle-Biotera-Dry-Shampoo/dp/B003JN69AA
